You may have had that feeling from time to time..you know that things should be going forward faster than they are,that you could do better but you need a nudge to get going.
It was a close friend who changed my whole thinking and it happened over a lunch in 2012.
Having someone else point out that you could be doing better is extremely powerful,especially when that person is firstly a friend and secondly a business success. We listen more to friends who are successful than those who are not,who we associate with is important and that’s a lesson in itself.
You wouldn’t take advice about dieting from someone who is over weight..credibility and authority issues surround this.
Around the start of 2011 social media was playing an increasingly important part in how Customeyes delivered results to customers. Whilst great for clients shouting about what we could do was not on the agenda.There was a slight reluctance to say what could be achieved as everyone was an expert and the space for who had been doing it longer and better was very crowded…too crowded and rammed full of sensitive ego’s.
During that lunch a fantastic story about competitor advantage was shared, a story that got me thinking differently about my own business, the essence of which is..
Two competitors are in a wood and they both see an enormous bear,huge and extremely angry and in no mood to be ignored.Very deliberately one of them reaches into their bag and gets a pair of running shoes out and puts them on..
“Are you mad the other stammers, you will never out run that bear”… “No, but I’ll out run you…” came the reply..
To out run that competitor and succeed at what we do best it was clear some issues had to be addressed…the advice I was given was to the point and exactly what was needed.
Firstly Learning - my friend said that to get ahead you have to learn ahead – you can’t not know what you are preaching..so step one was to spend time and money making sure skills were kept up to speed,box ticked…an on going process I have to confess

Thirdly and most importantly Confidence – if the previous two are in place then you should have turbo charged confidence.. this is not the same as arrogance which is when the first two are sadly lacking and you only think that you know what you are doing..
2013..New Year new approach..
So finally we come to the start of 2013..it’s taken a while but this year things are going to be different, by design.
This year will be one where we continue to offer a business social media service that ties in with customer and competitor research. A service that helps to get customers and talk to lapsed ones and keep up with the competition.
It’s a year where a whole mesh of services including Telemarketing,Business Social media,Strategy,Training,Competitor Intelligence,and Focus Groups are on the table to be used in what ever proportions our clients need.
Collaboration is an exciting prospect and one that began in 2012 and will continue this year, 2 and 2 really can make 5..
Confidence will play an important role and the difference is that we shall listen more to our clients and the market and not get side tracked, it’s too easy to go off on the wrong road and waste time.
There is so much doom and gloom out there,the economy is doing badly,no one has any money etc – forget all that it’s all down to me and of course you to get things right..this quote sums it up nicely
